Historical Monte Vista Architecture
During the latter 19th century to early 20th century, approximately from the 1890’s to 1930’s, several stately suburbs developed in San Antonio, including Monte Vista. The area features a flourishing period in San Antonio’s history just before the Great Depression. Architects such as Alfred Giles, Harvey Young, James Riely Gordon, and Atlee B. Ayres designed homes in Monte Vista for some of San Antonio’s affluent citizens in the early 20th century. Industry leaders throughout Texas constructed estates along Kings Highway, while other streets within this neighborhood provided for more modest means.
Monte Vista San Antonio is home to an attractive mix of elegant architectural eras ranging from Queen Anne, to Hollywood Bungalow, Georgian, Moorish, and Victorian. In 1973, because of the unique features of this neighborhood, residents answered a call to action to help preserve and protect this beautiful community.
